Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Kochi

After clearing immigration and customs, step into the receiving area where our representative will meet you and escort you to your hotel. Arrive at your hotel and check-in. Rest of the day is at leisure on own.
Day 2

Kochi

Morning visit Fort Cochin, your first stop, where the Portuguese flag was first hoisted is also believed to be the oldest settlement in India. Thereafter, visit the St. Francis church, built in 1510 by friars brought to India by Vasco da Gama. The gorgeous view of the ocean from the beach enhanced by the Chinese fishing nets, first erected between 1350 and 1450 AD makes extremely picturesque sight. Proceed the old commercial area Mattancherry an take a walk along the Jew Street. Visit the Jewish Synagogue (closed to non-Jews Fridays and Saturdays) and the Dutch Palace (closed on Fridays) which contains mythological murals and traditional Keralite flooring. In the evening watch a Kathakali dance performance, the most developed dance-drama art of India where facial expressions and hand gestures combine with movement to create this highly expressive traditional Kerala art form which depicts great Indian epics. Distinct among the six classical Indian dances, Kathakali is a highly dramatic and mimetic dance depicting various stories from Indian epics.
Day 3

Kochi / Backwaters Cruise commence

By noon: Check-in at Thottappalli village. We start sailing through the Thottappalli Lake, viewing closely the greenery and the life along both sides. The Spillway in this region splits the lake with the fresh water part to the east and saline Thottappalli river mouth to the west merging with the Arabian Sea. The spillway is constructed to spill into the sea the excess water coming over the low lying paddy fields through three major rivers from the hills. Lunch onboard. At the time of serving lunch the boat will be anchored. By evening arrive at a small village Kanjippadam. A walk through the village, watching the rural life, meeting people engaged in coir rope making, duck farming, taking a canoe ride through narrow canals exploring the interiors of the backwater region, trying a hand at fishing are enlightening experiences of the lifetime...Return to the boat.
Day 4

Backwaters: Cruise to Champakkulam village:

Visit the 700 year old church. Visit artisan engaged in sculpting with wood. Enjoy a canoe ride around. You can see the local people commuting by canoes, visit a toddy shop, and See a Snake boat used by the regional rowers during annual races. Return to the boat. Lunch onboard. Cruise to Pulinkunnu village. Visit the dock. Optional drive for 30 Minutes to an old temple.
Day 5

Backwaters: Cruise to Chavara Bhavan/Kainakari village

Chavara Bhavan, located in Alappuzha, is the ancestral home of the blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. It is now a holy shrine and spiritual resort where thousands of devotees gather for prayer, receive favours and feel amply gratified. Here, a 250 year old historically important beacon of light is preserved intact in its original and primitive form. Anchor for lunch. Arrive at Kavalam village: Enjoy a village walk. Visit the local market and meet people.
Day 6

Backwaters: Kumarakom

Relaxing onboard, viewing of large expanses of paddy fields, we cruise through mighty Vembanadu Lake. Arrive in Kumarakom. Experience the life in an island on the lake, visiting the farm house of a Syrian Christian family. Attend the cooking demo, have lunch and explore the farm. Cruise till evening. Take a canoe ride around the bird sanctuary.
Day 7

Backwaters

After breakfast, cruise to Karumadi village. Lunch on board. Cruise to Thrikkunnappuzha. Enjoy a walk on the beach.
Day 8

Cruise to Amritapuri/Kollam/Kovalam

After breakfast, cruise to Kayamkulam lake/estuary which opens into the Arabian Sea. The region is abundant in variety of fishes of commercial value. Arrive in Amritapuri village. Check-out. After taking a walk in the island village Amrita Puri – where the Ashram of Holi Mother/Spiritual leader Amritananda Mayi is located- drive to Kovalam. Arrive Kovalam and check-in at your hotel.
Day 9

Kovalam

Enjoy the serene beaches of Kovalam Option: You can treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage at the local Ayurveda centre (on direct payment basis)
Day 10

Depart Kovalam

In time, check–out from the hotel and transfer to airport for your onward flight.
